The publication Bedřich Smetana & OPERA brings together the libretti of all eight of Bedřich Smetana’s completed operas: The Brandenburgers in Bohemia, The Bartered Bride, Dalibor, Libuše, The Two Widows, The Kiss, The Secret, and The Devil’s Wall.

Each libretto is presented in the original Czech alongside a new English translation, making Smetana’s operatic world accessible to both Czech and international readers. The volume offers an opportunity to explore the remarkable variety of themes across his operas, the distinctive language of the individual libretti, and the personalities and literary approaches of their authors.
